Newborn baby photography is one of my favourite subjects, the chance to document a new little person is truly inspiring. The tiny fingers and toes, the wispy hair (not always!), the fragile soft pink skin. All of these are combined to create distinct baby photography portrait that will be cherished for a lifetime.
There’s nothing more wonderful than watching and documenting a baby as it goes through the stages of babyhood. I love being able to give the gift of timelessness to the rapidly changing baby! From pushing up, to sitting… from crawling to standing…all of it deserves to be captured forever in baby portraits!
For the newborn baby photography session I will work at your little one’s pace (and yours since I’m sure you will be tired from the birth and lack of sleep!). I highly recommend you book your session BEFORE the baby arrives as it is best to capture newborn photos within the first couple of weeks as it’s so easy for the time to pass with the upheaval of a new arrival.
As a professional baby photographer and father of two I understand how unpredictable babies can be and it is my aim to work in such a way that your session is as relaxed as possible. The baby photography sessions are never timed and are in a “go with the flow” format, usually lasting about 1 – 1 1/2 hours. I never rush a session and will stop often for feeding and changing and also that he/she may just get a bit cranky and need a cuddle.
For timeless baby photography images I suggest that your baby is dressed in plain one piece outfits in pastel or bright vibrant colours we will also do some shots with them naked or in one of my terry nappies. For parents I suggest black long sleeve tops and dark coloured jeans or trousers. In both cases please avoid clothing with loud, busy patterns, and logos, which draw attention away from you. Feel free to bring multiple changes of clothing or even put all the ideas in a bag and bring them – I can help with this decision.
What is the best age for newborn baby photography?
If you are wanting your newborn to have that “curled” baby photography look in his/her photos, please understand that babies are best photographed during the first two weeks after birth. During this time, they “curl” and have that special freshly born look that won’t be there for long. If this is the look you want your newborn to have, please contact me before you give birth if possible. However you can wait a bit longer say 1-2 months for them to develop a bit further. There is really no ideal time for a baby photography session but don’t leave it too long as they’ll be toddlers before you know it.
